On May 31, Kazakhstan commemorates the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression, established by Presidential Decree No. 3443 of April 5, 1997

In connection with this date and within the framework of the international project "Memory", the library holds an annual "Memory Relay" Action, for young readers of the library.

On May 29, students of Karaganda Medical University, Karaganda Engineering College, students of the secondary school № 41 EHS, members of the youth intellectual center "BOTA" gathered in the morning for a rally in front of the library building.

Speaking to the gathered youth, the head of the Bekturov RJL Kalenova N.K. and the senior lecturer of the Karaganda State University named after E.A. Buketov Smagulov N.B. told us about the tragic pages of our history. This date is special for Kazakhstan. From the stigma "Enemy of the people" suffered not only those people who were subjected to severe repression, but also their relatives. In Kazakhstan, over 103,000 people were subjected to political repression. 25 thousand people were shot. Many representatives of the Kazakh intellectuals included scientists and cultural workers and politicians.

The writer, journalist, translator Zhaik Kagenovich Bekturov, whose name our library bears, was also subjected to repression. Zhaik Bekturov knew about the cruel trials of camp life, about the young man of totalitarianism that destroyed the whole color of the nation, about years of political repression and stagnation in the country. The hard years spent in the camps are reflected by the author in the works "In a Hot Kettle", "In a Cold Kettle", "Letter to a Sister".

A student of the Karaganda Constructional College Amanzholova Roza read the poem of her own composition, whose heartfelt lines touched the feelings of those attending the rally. A pupil of the school number 41 Dauletbek Baytursynov read poems dedicated to the victims of repression. With his verses delivered at the event, a library employee, akyn Ruslan Nurbay.

After the rally, participants of the "Relay of Memory" on two buses, accompanied by cars of the State Automobile Inspectorate, set off on a tour to the memory of the victims of political repression (the Karlag Museum), located in the village of Dolinka. In the courtyard of the building, young people and library staff laid flowers at the "Wall of Sorrow", honoring the memory of the victims with a minute of silence.

In the museum, which was then followed by the guys, there are many exhibits that testify to the hard times that the Kazakh people had to endure. Each subject in this museum is of historical value, recalls the tragic days of history. The whole atmosphere of the museum creates the atmosphere of those times and makes you plunge into the past. These are various photos of the prisoners who were in the camp, archival documents with information about the prisoners. In the museum there is a special hall, where 1930 is described. Here you can see pictures of hungry times, depicting emaciated people, there are archival documents that testify to the terrible life moments of those times.

Having visited the museum, the youth learned about the terrible years of repression, about the sufferings of prisoners, about the incredible number of crippled and ruined lives.

As the Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev said, "history lessons only have value when they are understood and realized by the modern generation of Kazakhstanis."
